With the absence of budget money set aside for the 2017 fireworks display, the Knoxville City Council had to find other options to help fund the 4th of July tradition.
This year’s fireworks display money will come from the hotel and motel tax revenue generated from tourists who visit Knoxville throughout the year. Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams tells KNIA/KRLS News the 2018 display was included in the budget with funds coming from the hotel and motel tax. The council agreed the answer would be to fund this year’s display the same way. Adams adds that the fireworks display for Knoxville costs close to $12,000 annually.
