Today tornado sirens will be broadcast statewide as part of Iowa Severe Weather Awareness Week.

An annual tornado drill will begin at 10 a.m. for central Iowa when a test tornado watch is issued. At 10:30, a test tornado warning will be sent out across the state, with outdoor warning systems, EAS alerts, and other warning mechanisms being tested ahead of the severe weather season. KNIA/KRLS will have a special program immediately following the warning, in which we highlight our Severe Weather Action Team coverage and air interviews with local officials, WeatherEye, and the National Weather Service about how they respond when severe weather strikes.

KNIA/KRLS will be on-the-air live in the event of any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning for any portion of Marion County, and backup generators ensure the coverage stays on if the power goes out.
