The Simpson Storm Softball Team had not played since March 11th before taking on 12th ranked Coe College yesterday afternoon, and the rust showed on the offensive end in a two game sweep for the Kohawks 5-0 and 3-0.
In game 1, Simpson endured a pitching duel to keep the game scoreless through five and had several opportunities to punch in runs but couldn’t get the clutch hit. Coe took the lead with a score in the sixth, and then broke the game open in the seventh with a four run outbreak. Coe’s Maliah Fligg pitched a complete game shutout for the win, while Maggie Long picked up the tough luck loss for the Storm.
Game two was much of the same for Simpson, as the bats could only produce three total hits. Coe took a two run lead on a Haley Jones two run bomb and never looked back in the win. Alyssa Olson pitched a complete game shutout striking out 11, while Madison Rasmussen took the loss going 5.1 giving up only three runs. The Storm fall to 5-15, and 0-2 in Iowa Conference play.
