On Monday, Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams gave a presentation to the City Council in which he spoke about long-term planning for the city.

One part of that presentation was the Knoxville Airport. Airport staff as well as engineers informed the council about the close to $5 million dollars worth of improvements the airport needs. Adams tells KNIA/KRLS News the city can receive grants from the FAA that would cover 90% of the project but even with grants the city would not be able to cover the 10% left to fund the project without borrowing money. Adams says the improvements to the airport would include repavement of the runway, and the construction of a new hangar to accommodate aircraft that are already on a waiting list for hangar space.
