The first of three Casey’s General Store locations are closing this weekend as they transition to a new facility on Main Street.
The store at the corner of Washington and Broadway will shut its doors Sunday. According to some of the employees in the three closing the locations, they will be training and preparing to move to the new location at the corner of Main and Union Streets for an opening sometime in early May.
The stores at Washington and Main and on Oskaloosa Street will be closing on April 16th and 23rd respectively.
A new Casey’s location on Main Street generated considerable controversy as a site plan and subsequent approvals passed through numerous city boards and the Pella City Council, until a Planned Unit Development was approved. As part of that agreement, Casey’s will repurpose the properties of the three closing stores, add additional landscaping to the new site currently under construction, and restrict hours once it opens.
Main Street from Union to Independence in front of the store has reopened after the segment was closed for over a week and a half.
