Multiple severe thunderstorm warnings were issued overnight as a thunderstorm producing large hail passed through the area.
According to multiple reports by law enforcement and listeners, penny-sized (.5″) to quarter-sized hail (1″) was reported in most of the county, including Knoxville, Lake Red Rock, Pella, Harvey, Melcher-Dallas, Attica, and Columbia. Frequent lighting was also a threat. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air shortly after midnight, and seven staff members provided live coverage from the studio, received damage reports, and reported from throughout the county, including Pella and Bussey.
Three separate warnings were issued for the fast-moving storm from midnight to 12:50 a.m. this morning. No significant damage has been reported at this time.
The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team will go on the air live during any Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Warning for any portion of Marion County and backup generators that automatically come on if we lose power ensure our coverage stays on if the power goes out.
