Numerous budget bills are beginning to make their way through the Iowa House and Senate as the Iowa Legislative Session deadline draws near.

State Senator Ken Rozenboom says the process has been difficult for many and most state organizations will see some sort of impact, but feels they’ve been doing their best to minimize harm in key areas.

Democrats have been critical of Republicans for not reviewing tax credits given out annually as a means to lower the revenue shortfall, but Rozenboom says there is consideration of eliminating some credits before the session is over.

Iowa lawmakers agreed to spend $7.245 billion — or $38 million less than Governor Terry Branstad suggested after the latest Revenue Estimating Committee number showed slower-than-expected revenue projections.
