Knoxville High School as well as the Knoxville Middle School will be conducting a lockdown drill on Tuesday, May 9th.
The middle school will hold their drill at 8:15 a.m. with the high school conducting theirs at 1 p.m. The lockdown is the first part of a two-part training program for students and staff in the event of an active shooter situation. The second part of the program is an evacuation plan that students and staff will be conducting as part of Tuesday’s training. The training is called ALICE and stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate. School Resource Officer Kyle Keller with the Knoxville Police Department tells KNIA/KRLS News Tuesday’s drill will be the first for the Knoxville schools but Keller says they hope to do more in the fall and make the drill as common as tornado and fire drills. The drill is expected to last 15 to 20 minutes.
