The Knoxville School Board met in regular session Monday.

At the beginning of the meeting Vickie Reed was sworn in as a new school board member filling the spot vacated by Leslie Miller. Following the swearing in of Reed, the board was informed by Knoxville Schools Superintendent Cassi Pearson that May was School Board Recognition Month and was presented with piece of cake in celebration. The board was later given a presentation about the 2017 8th grade Washington DC trip by 8th grade students who attended the trip. The board then heard a presentation about elementary literacy initiatives and programs. Following the presentations the board approved the publication for a proposed 2016-2017 budget amendment and set public hearing date for May 22nd for the potential amendment. The potential amendment is to change the estimate of expenditures from $950,000 to $1,050,000 that will be financed from increased receipts and balances not budgeted for or considered in the current budget. The board then approved 2017-2018 school fees. At the end of the meeting the board approved three different trip requests that included an FFA trip, Scient Club trip as well as the 2018 8th grade Washington D.C. trip.
