Tenth-ranked Carlisle knocked off number five Pella last night in a rematch of last year’s class 3-A baseball semifinal game, 11-10. Meanwhile, the Pella softball team also suffered an opening night defeat on its home field, 6-2 to Ballard.

The Little Dutch jumped out in front 1-0 on Avery Van Zee’s leadoff home run in the bottom of the first, but Carlisle scored the next eight runs to take control.

Pella then scored five runs in the fourth, with Ben Tysseling’s two run single and Jaden Rolffs two run triple doing most of the damage.

After the Wildcats stretched their lead to 11-6, Pella clawed back again in the sixth with an RBI double by Rolffs and a three-run homer by Tyler Hillman. The Little Dutch got a one out baserunner in the seventh, but couldn’t push the tying run across.

Rolffs was three-for-three with a double, triple, run scored and three RBI. Van Zee scored three runs, and Joe Ruiter added a pair of hits. Freshman Colby Van Gorp got his first varity stolen base, and fellow freshman River Baker notched his first varsity hit.

The Little Dutch will host Des Moines North tonight.

Pella’s softball team also jumped out to an early lead, grabbing a 1-0 advantage when Ally Almond’s single plated Madison Parks in the bottom of the first inning.

After the Bombers scored twice in the second and once in the fifth, the Lady Dutch got one back on a fifth inning RBI single by Alizabeth Van Dusseldorp, scoring Parks.

Ballard broke it open with three in the seventh, then retired Pella in order to end it.

The Lady Dutch are at Lynnville-Sully on Thursday.
