For now, the Melcher-Dallas softball squad has bragging rights in southern Marion County as the Saints outscored their rivals from Twin Cedars 14-10 last night. Early on the Saints made it look like they would send everyone home early bolting out to an 8-0 lead after the second inning. But The Sabers stormed back to make it 8-6 piecing together those runs in the third with four singles and two doubles. Melcher-Dallas would get four runs back in the fourth to make it 12-6, but back came the Sabers to cut to 12-10 in the fifth. The Saints finally shut the door with two more runs in the sixth and pitcher Emily Krpan shut out Twin Cedars in the sixth and seventh innings. Saints Coach Jim Crozier told KNIA/KRLS Sports while Krpan did not have her best stuff she still got out of it with a win. Krpan fanned ten Sabers while her counterpart in the circle Jensen Hastings took the loss but mowed down seven Melcher-Dallas batters. Twin Cedars will head to the Southeast Warren Invitational on Saturday while Melcher-Dallas travels to Grandview Christian tonight.
