A group of Pella Lady Dutch Tennis players will hope to extend their season by at least another day when they compete in the Class 1A singles and doubles state tournament in Iowa City.

The Lady Dutch will hope to advance against a top field of the best individual tennis players in the state.

Lily Roozeboom is playing in her third straight individual state tournament, and says the group’s main goal is to see action in the winners bracket on Friday, which places them among the top eight in both singles and doubles.

“I just think that making it to the second day of state, all of us, just making the top eight in doubles or singles is a big goal for us.”

Pella’s No. 1 singles player Brooke Jorgensen will square of with Assumption’s Stephanie Bush in Match 3, while Roozeboom will have to overcome No. 3 overall seed Sarah Wood of Shenandoah in the singles tournament.

The Lady Dutch doubles duo of Metcalf and Cecily Johnson competed against Brooklyn Taylor and Erin Stanley of Glenwood.

Jorgensen and Metcalf are both competing in their second straight state tournament as well.
