Pella High’s top two girls tennis players have both reached the semifinals of the class 1-A state tournament, while the Lady Dutch have a doubles team alive in the consolation bracket.

Brooke Jorgensen beat Stephanie Bush of Davenport Assumption in three sets in the opening round, then beat Jacqueline Ingram of Denison-Schleswig in two sets in the quarterfinals.

Lily Roozeboom needed just two sets to win each of her matches, against Sarah Wood of Shenandoah and Kally Peterson of Decorah.

Today in the semifinals, Jorgensen will square off against Waterloo Columbus’ Olivia Fain while Roozeboom will meet Anatta Charoenkul of Fairfield. Both Lady Dutch players are guaranteed top four finishes at state.

In doubles yesterday, Bronwyn Metcalf and Cecily Johnson beat a team from Glenwood in two sets in the first round, were beaten in straight sets by a duo from Waterloo Columbus, then won a consolation match against Estherville-Lincoln Central in two.

They’ll play two matches today, and will finish anywhere between fifth and eighth place depending on those results.

Action is taking place at the University of Iowa Tennis Center in Iowa City.
