New Sharon’s Spring Festival begins today. Formerly known as the Rose Festival, the celebration is a long-standing tradition held during the second weekend of June each year.

The theme this year is “The Fabulous Fifties.” Activities begin this evening with Praise in the Park, supper provided by PROS Youth Group, and the announcement of the Queen at 5:30. A showing of “Moana” on a inflatable movie screen begins at 8 at the North Mahaska football field.

On Saturday, coffee-time at the McVay Family Center starts at 7, the Jace Race begins at 8:00 at the North Mahaska Track. The annual Spring Festival parade will kick off at 11:30. Fun in the Park will be from 12-4 as well.

The car and truck show will have registration from 9-12 with awards at 3. The program will start at 12:00 with a performance by Yarkosky Dance, re-announcement of the Queen contest, Mister and Miss New Sharon, Citizen of the Year, and several other contests.

Fireworks begin at dusk Saturday by the football field.
