It was a fun ride back from Dallas Center last night for both the Pella Christian softball and baseball teams after beating their Little Hawkeye Conference foes.

The Eagles beat the Fillies in softball 3-2 to remain the only undefeated team in the conference. Pella Christian is 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the LHC.

In the baseball game, which was heard live on 92.1 KRLS, Pella Christian pounded the Mustangs 12-3.

Will Dembski got the party started with a first inning two-run home run, the first long ball of his varsity career and the first homer of the season for the Eagles.

“It felt really good off the bat. Coming into the game, I saw the wind blowing out, so I knew that if I got under one that it would go out, and that’s exactly what happened.”

Dembski added his second career home run in the sixth inning, and one pitch later Scott Haveman deposited a ball over the left center field fence. All told, the Eagles racked up a dozen hits, more than enough offense for ace pitcher Isaac Vander Hart, who coach Jeff Bruxvoort says was solid once again.

“He continues to work hard and he continues to hit his spots where he needs to. Scott (Haveman) does a good job calling pitches at the catcher spot. We’re just really happy for him, and we’ll continue to ride that strength that Isaac keeps bringing us.”

Vander Haart allowed three runs, but just one was earned, in five innings of work. He scattered nine hits, walked one and struck out eight.

The Eagles are now 8-5 overall and 4-3 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.

Both the Pella Christian baseball and softball teams will host Newton on Monday night for varsity doubleheaders.
