A day of patriotic history and a “Salute to Freedom” will be held today at the Marion County Park in Knoxville.
The event is sponsored by the Marion County Historical Society and Iowa State Savings Bank and will begin with a flag raising at 7 a.m. The Lions Club will be holding a pancake and sausage breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Today’s event includes Civil War era camp drills, a fashion show, skirmishes, as well as multiple vendors, a bake sale in the General Store and Doug Wilson conducting a program on Marion County Coal Mining in the Schoolhouse at 2 p.m. Today’s “Salute to Freedom” is free and open to the public and will run until 4 p.m.
