On Monday, the Knoxville City Council approved the first consideration of an ordinance that will ban the use of fireworks within city limits and limit the sale of fireworks to retail zoning areas.
During the discussion regarding the potential ban, council member James Lane compared the banning of fireworks use within city limits to the current ban on firearms use within city limits. Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams tells KNIA/KRLS News he believes council member Lane’s perspective is that there are many similarities between firearms and fireworks when it comes to the noise and danger they both can bring, and if we have a ban for one we should have a ban for the other. The council will next meet on June 19th in which the council will look to approve the second consideration and potential waiving of the third consideration to have the ordinance in place before the July 4th holiday.
