A day of patriotic history and a “Salute to Freedom” was held Saturday at the Marion County Park in Knoxville.
The event began with a flag raising followed by Civil War era camp drills, a fashion show, skirmishes, as well as multiple vendors. The event was sponsored by the Marion County Historical Society which held tours of the buildings with members dressed in proper era clothing explaining life in the 1800’s. The “Salute to Freedom” also featured a bake sale in the General Store and Doug Wilson who conducted a program on Marion County Coal Mining in the Schoolhouse. The Lions Club also held a pancake and sausage breakfast during the event.
