The Marion County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
The board approved the 1st reading while waiving second and third readings for an ordinance on the restricted use of fireworks in Marion County by a 2-1 vote.
According to the new ordinance, first and second-class consumer fireworks may be discharged within unincorporated areas of the county on July 4th between the hours of 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. The discharge of fireworks on July 4th are also restricted to only personal private property by the property owner or with the permission of the property owner or with lawful tenant present.
Residents must be 18 years of older to discharge fireworks and persons discharging fireworks can not be under the influence of controlled substances or alcohol. Fireworks usage is also prohibited within 200 yards of any school, hospital, nursing home, veterinary clinic or animal shelter, and are prohibited within 200 yards of any utility such as waterworks, gasworks or sanitary sewage system.
The discharge of fireworks is also strictly prohibited when a burn ban is in effect for the county.
The board also approved the usage of the courthouse bathrooms during the Red Rock Threshers Tractor Club event on July 15th at on the square. The board also approved the appointments of Kelly Mitchell, Robert Judkins, and Mark Worrall to the Marion County Development Commission and appointed Jonna Van Ness as a Marion County Medical Examiner Investigator. The board will next meet in a special session on Friday, June 16th at 9 a.m. to discuss Senior Nutrition Program Departmental Activities as well as the appointing of Bonnie Stalzer to the Aging Resource Advisory. The board will also discuss maintenance responsibilities for Marion County facilities.
