Reports of damage are coming in as residents survey the aftermath of large hail in the southern half of the county Thursday night.

Quarter-sized to baseball-sized hail was reported in areas near Melcher-Dallas, Bussey, Lovilia, Tracy, and Attica. Trees and large branches were knocked down in Knoxville and Bussey. Two Marion County Deputy patrol vehicles also received hail damage.

One of the hardest hit areas in the storm was south of Knoxville. Farmers in the area report considerable damage to corn plants, although beans are more likely to recover. Dan Dennison tells KNIA/KRLS his sweet corn suffered severe damage, and that he is assessing how much will need to be replanted. He says it is possible that he will not have much sweet corn until after Nationals.

The Marion County Emergency Management department is seeking any possible damage reports. Email janderson@co.marion.ia.us with address information and any photos of damage.
