The Pella City Council will consider approval of a resolution banning the use of fireworks in the Pella city limits at their meeting Monday.
City Administrator Mike Nardini says there was a ban in place on the use and sale of fireworks prior to legislation passed in the 2017 session, and city code had to be revisited because of the change in state law. Nardini says city staff has recommended approval of the ban to the city council.
“What we will be proceeding with in the short term at our next meeting is a resolution which bans the usage of fireworks in our community,” Nardini says. “The reason why we are proceeding with this is there were concerns from our police and fire department on public safety reasons.”
The council will consider their options to potentially restrict where fireworks can be sold in the community at a future meeting.
