Emergency crews were called to Otley for a fire the homeowner thinks may have started due to wayward sparks from fireworks.

Pella Rural Firefighters were called to 108 Old Highway 163 in Otley near the post office for smoke coming from near the basement in the home just before 8 p.m. last night.

The homeowner told fire fighters that he thinks fireworks sent sparks behind the siding earlier in the day, and he saw smoke in the basement, came out, and pulled off the siding. Pella Assistant Fire Chief Joel Braafhart tells KNIA/KRLS News the fire was mostly extinguished by they time they arrived.

Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Pella Ambulance crews assisted.
