Numerous fire departments worked late into Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning to extinguish a fire impacting numerous businesses on the Melcher-Dallas square.
Just before 9:30 p.m., a structure fire was reported on the west side of the square. The blaze engulfed many businesses on the west side of the square including: That’s My Bag and More, Sinners and Saints Bar, Iowa State Savings Bank, and Craftiques Flea Market.
Melcher Dallas Fire Chief, Zach Kalvig tells KNIA/KRLS News the building for That’s My Bag and More as well as Sinners and Saints Bar are a total loss. Other businesses including Craftiques Flea Market and the Iowa State Savings Bank experienced significant water and smoke damage and possible structural damage.
The Iowa State Savings Bank office in Melcher-Dallas will be closed today while fire damage is assessed and until power is restored to the building. Melcher-Dallas customers are asked to use the main bank office in Knoxville for their banking needs. Further information should be available soon.
Fifteen different agencies responded to the blaze including Melcher-Dallas Fire and Rescue, Knoxville Township Rural Fire, Knoxville Fire and Rescue, Pleasantville Fire, and Pella City Fire Department, among others. One person was transported from the scene with injuries. The cause of the fire is still undetermined and the investigation is ongoing.
