Much how the season started, the season ended for the Knoxville softball team, a loss to the Newton Cardinals. After starting off their 2017 season with a 10-3 loss to Newton, the Panthers season came to a close last night in an 11-1 loss in six innings in Newton.

Newton scored in every inning of the game, but the contest remained close until the fifth inning when the Cardinals expanded on a 5-1 lead scoring four runs. Two more runs in the sixth would end the contest early. The Panthers graduate just three seniors from the team, but Interim Head Coach Reilly Finarty told KNIA/KRLS Sports that the trio will have a lasting impact on the program with the example they set. The Panthers end their season with a 12-16 record.
