The Pella School board eliminated class rank at Pella High School at the second of two summer meetings Monday.
A proposal from administration outlined the benefits of eliminating the ranking of graduates based on GPA, because high achieving graduating classes may push down high achieving students that find themselves lower on the list as a result. The goal is to boost college placement rates.
The board also received an update on school construction at Pella High School, which included area by area updates. Most of the building will be complete by August 31st. However, the new art room will not be ready until October, due to issues discovered during the demolition of the previous kitchen area.
Discussion was also held regarding priorities for the school board during the upcoming state legislative session.
