As dangerous heat settles in, residents are reminded to take extra care of their pets.

Dr. Tim Yoder with Tri County Veterinary Clinic in Pella tells KNIA/KRLS News to provide extra shade and water to any outdoor pets, and to keep them indoors, if possible. Yoder says keeping fur short and limiting exercise during the day are also good ways to protect dogs from oppressive heat. The National Weather Service predicts heat index values will approach and at times top 105 degrees during the afternoon and evening hours through Saturday.
