Area school districts and the Iowa Association of School Boards are urging community members passionate about education to consider running for election to local school boards.

Pella Superintendent Greg Ebeling says they are searching for candidates to run for the eastern director position.

“We haven’t had a lot of interest from somebody for filling Michelle Van Maanen’s spot, and she is on the east side of the district,” he says. “The district line is straight down main street, and it goes north in to the country and south onto Elevator Road.”

Additionally, there are three director positions up for election this fall in the PCM School District. Nomination papers for school board seats are available at area district offices. School board candidates must obtain the signatures of at least one percent of the qualified electors of the district or 50 electors, whichever is less. Nominations for open seats can be filed until Thursday, August 3rd at 5 p.m.
