Today we continue the countdown of the Top 10 sports stories of the 2016-2017 school year at Central College with number four.
A runner-up finish in both the Iowa Conference regular season and conference tournament lifted the Central College softball team to its NCAA record 28th NCAA Division III tournament this spring.
As an at-large qualifier, the Dutch waited patiently during the May 8th selection show to see their name pop up. Senior first baseman Abby Voas, a captain, said it was worth the wait.
“We went through about half of the bracket and I had a feeling that we weren’t going to be on one side once it started. So it got to the other side and it kept going down and with every regional that went up there I started shaking a little bit more. I’m still shaking now, but it’s really good to see your name up there. And to see that we’re hosting, too, it’s even more of a blessing.”
The Dutch went two-and-out in the tournament, losing to St. Thomas of Minnesota and Washington University of St. Louis.
Central finished the 2017 season at 32-10.
