Today we continue the countdown of the Top 10 sports stories of the 2016-2017 school year at Pella Christian with number two.

In one of the best basketball games to hit the airwaves this past winter, in the state semifinals, No. 2 Pella Christian and No. 3 Kuemper Catholic swapped the lead 23 times and neither team led by 10 as the Eagles eventually escaped with a 64-62 victory heard live from Wells Fargo Arena on 92.1 KRLS.

Pella Christian’s best stretch came late in the third quarter when they went on a 12-2 run, only for Kuemper to claw back and take a lead in the fourth.

The Eagles made pivotal moves down the stretch, including a pair of three point plays by David Kacmarynski and perfect foul shooting by Levi Jungling to keep the Knights from getting momentum late. Before his clutch work at the charity stripe, Jungling was unstoppable for most of the afternoon, pouring in 31 points with six threes.

Pella Christian eventually lost to Western Christian in the finals the next night, which marked the program’s third top three finish in the past three seasons.
