The latest crop condition report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture is showing more impact from this summer’s drought.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey says more areas of the state are seeing the ill effects of the lack of rainfall reported in nearly 40 percent of the state. Soil conditions have continued to dry out, with 97 percent of topsoil in South Central Iowa rated either dry or extremely dry and 79 percent of subsoil in the same category.
The condition of corn and soybeans is also deteriorating, with now 13 percent of Iowa’s corn and 15 percent of soybeans rated poor or very poor, both slight increases over the previous week.
