An experienced Central College women’s golf team is hoping to build upon the last year’s trip to the NCAA tournament.

The defending Iowa Conference champs will be the first Dutch team to see action this fall when they head to an early bird tournament this Saturday.

Joining us Monday night on the Central College Radio Coaches Corner, Tim Wilkinson told us that the success last year has added more fuel to the fire as the ladies get ready to defend their league title this fall.

“Most importantly, the girls have been working really hard in the summer. We had a handful of them play in the Women’s Am. The challenge leaving (Nationals in) Houston in May was to make sure that they were doing everything in their power to improve as a team, and to do that, they need to improve individually. Regardless of the outcome this fall, it’s not going to be for lack of effort.”

Every member of last fall’s Iowa Conference championship roster and this spring’s NCAA tournament qualifier is back this year for the Dutch.

They’ll get their first dose of competition Saturday at the Mount Mercy Early Bird Classic, an 18-hole tournament at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course in Marion.
