The Knights of Columbus in Pella are continuing to raise money during their Campaign for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities.

One of the biggest benefactors from the drive is the Pella Community School District Special Education Department. Pella High School Special Education Teacher Lori Grubb tells KNIA/KRLS News the Knights’ campaign has been very beneficial to their department over the years.

“Obviously the financial part has just been wonderful, and the raising awareness part — the more we are aware of what’s going on in our world, the better we can make our world become,” she says.

“This has just been a wonderful thing, and it’s really helped to make the special education students not seem so different from the typical students.”

Grubb says while they face many challenges, she says the most rewarding aspect of teaching in special education is seeing the development of students as they push through milestones.

The Knights of Columbus Campaign for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities continues in front of the Pella Hy-Vee, Walmart, and Fareway through Saturday. Hear more from the special education teachers in the Pella Community School District on today’s Let’s Talk Pella.
