A Knoxville man was arrested Monday following an incident in which he allegedly stole a car and broke into another car and a home in rural Knoxville.

Tyler Mitchell Jr., 33, of Knoxville was arrested Monday after officers were called to the scene of a burglary in progress. Just after 10 p.m. Sunday night Mitchell entered a residence uninvited and attempted to steal a bottle of alcohol. Mitchell was confronted in the home by the victims. Law enforcement were called to the scene but upon arrival Mitchell had fled on foot. Upon investigation it was determined that Mitchell had also broken into a vehicle located at the residence and had taken cigarettes, a cell phone, money and a Jennings .22 caliber hand gun. According to court documents the victims confronted Mitchell about the handgun which he retrieved and returned to them. Mitchell has a prior felony conviction which prohibits him from possessing a firearm. Officers also found a 2000 Nissan Maxima parked at the residence which was reported stolen earlier that day. Mitchell was located just after midnight Monday morning with the cigarettes, cell phone and money in his possession. He was arrested and charged with burglary 2nd degree, a class C felony, burglary 3rd degree, an aggravated misdemeanor, felon in control of a firearm a class D felony, theft 2nd degree a class D felony, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with official acts and theft 5th degree.
