The Tracy Festival begins today.

The festival originated in 1975 with the centennial celebration of the town. After a 9-year layoff from the holding the festival Marion County Engineer and former Tracy resident Tyler Christian tells KNIA/KRLS News a group of people from Tracy got together and thought with the number of young families and children in town Tracy needed to hold a celebration to bring out more of a sense of community. A movie in the park tonight at 7 p.m. will kick off the festival and attendees are asked to bring a blanket or chairs. Saturday’s activities begin with a 5K walk and run at 9 a.m. with registration starting at 8 a.m. At 10 the kids zone opens at the fire station ball diamond location and will run until 4 p.m. A bags tournament and a spaghetti lunch will be held at the fire station from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a free will donation. A community coffee time will be held at 2 p.m. for anyone wanting to relax and catch up with their neighbors. Steve McCombs and Danny Mitchell will kick off the live music portion at 5:30 p.m. and Matthew “Bones” will start at 6:30 p.m. with the Sugar Creek Band to end the night. To hear the complete interview with Tyler Christian, tune in for today’s In Depth with Dr. Bob Leonard.
