Two undefeated teams will meet on the gridiron tonight in a battle for what is most likely the district championship as Pella Christian makes the trip across Marion County to take on Pleasantville.

The situation mirrors that of 2016 when the two teams met where Pella Christian showed dominance in a 56-20 victory, however the teams are a little more similarly built this season. The Eagles do most of their damage on the ground with the dynamic duo of Hayden Vroom and Noah Treimer, who have combined for 1968 yards of offense and 27 of the Eagles 37 touchdowns this year. Pleasantville also boasts a strong ground game, with Hunter Tyree who has accounted for 60 percent of the Trojans’ rushing yards (880 of 1469) and 102 of their 246 points scored. Eagles head coach Rich Kackmarynski told KNIA/KRLS Sports, whether or not they can slow down Tyree will be a key deciding factor in who comes out on top.

“He’s elusive, he’s quick, has nice speed, so we are going to have to contain that,” he says. “I think that’s something we’ve worked on since day one with our defense is to contain all ball carriers, but I said to our defense this week we need to know where No. 24 is at all times.”

Pleasantville Head Coach Graig Eichenberger told KNIA/KRLS Sports, that the senior laden Trojan squad doesn’t have what happened in 2016 on their minds.

“We return a veteran group, 18 seniors, and I think they’ve had a good week of practice, and mentally they are ready to go. I don’t think they are thinking about last year, and I don’t think we’ve even mentioned last year so they are ready to go.”

Listen to the game live on 92.1 KRLS for the Pella Christian perspective with Andrew Schneider and Larry Hessing, or on the KNIA3 stream for the Pleasantville side with Andrew Swadner and Ron Danks. Both pregames start at 6:30, and kickoff is at 7.
