While the Pella High girls are one of the favorites to advance out of tomorrow’s state qualifying meet, the boys will need to run one of their best races of the year.
Fortunately, “The Process” has them set up to do just that. Coach Doug Cutler sets out their entire season’s worth of workouts with emphasis on these season ending meets.
He says that the boys saw their jayvee counterpart have success in their season ending meet last week at conference, and that should give them confidence heading to tomorrow’s meet.
“We backed off their mileage, and we talked a great deal about visualizing the course and knowing what was going to happen. They saw them drop their times tremendously. The varsity guys only improved their time by about 30 seconds from earlier in the year at Newton to the conference race. But that was because we didn’t back off their volume the same way.”
Cutler says that they have now done that with the varsity boys, which was part of “The Process”, and they’re hopeful it will pay off tomorrow.
The state qualifying meet for all local 2A and 3A teams will be tomorrow afternoon at Central College.
