Central College’s Blaine Hawkins and Rachel Verhun were honored by the Iowa Conference yesterday.

Hawkins was named football’s offensive player of the week, while Verhun was the women’s soccer defensive player of the week.

Just a freshman, Hawkins set school records for passing yards (367) and total offense (498), and tied a school record with five touchdown passes. He also ran for a pair of scores in Central’s 65-24 win over Loras Saturday afternoon.

Verhun, a senior, led a defensive effort that allowed just one goal in 220 minutes of action this past week against perennial league powers Loras and Luther. She also connected on a penalty kick in Central’s season ending shootout loss to the Norse.
