Knoxville Hospital and Clinics (KHC) provided $3.5 million in community benefits last year, according to a recently completed assessment by the Iowa Hospital Association.

That amount, based on 2016 figures, includes nearly $2.4 million in uncompensated care such as charity care, bad debt and unpaid costs of Medicaid. Community benefits are programs and services that address identified community health needs, regardless of source or availability of payment, and provide measurable improvement in health care access, health status and the use of health care resources. The results for KHC are included in a statewide report by the Iowa Hospital Association that shows Iowa hospitals provided community benefits in 2016 valued at more than $855 million, including more than $198 million in charity care.
