Pella Christian’s invitation to join the elite programs in Iowa High School football will begin if they can clear a hurdle they’ve been unable to get over the last four years.
The Eagles will seek their first ever win against Iowa City Regina, a team they’ve lost to each of the last three seasons, including last year’s near-comeback in the quarterfinal round.
The Regals, beyond their success against Pella Christian, are among the best football institutions in the state of Iowa, with seven championship game appearances since 2010, and six first place trophies in a row from 2010-2015.
Seniors Trevan Cadwell and Moises Carballo know the challenge that lies ahead, and look forward to trying to overcome the best.
“I’m going to get out there and it’s going to feel like a dream come true. I’ve always wanted this and always been prepared”, said Cadwell. “We’re not just coming out to this game thinking we’re in the Dome, we’re fine, we’re done. No, we’re going to play and we’re going to fight to the last play, last minute, last second.”
Carballo added that “Coach Kac has this saying that we’re not going to go to the Dome, we’re going to go through the Dome. Yeah, we made it to the Dome, but that’s not our goal, we’re not done yet. What we want to do is go through it and win it all.”
Pella Christian will face Regina tomorrow morning in the Class 1A semifinals at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls. Join us for live coverage beginning at 9:30 a.m., with opening kick at 10:06 on 92.1 KRLS, www.kniakrls.com, and the free KRLS mobile app.
