On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, major hostilities of World War I were formally ended.
Armistice Day was celebrated each year on November 11th to commemorate that day until 1954 when Veterans Day was created. Now on November 11th each year we honor the people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. To honor the veterans past and present the Knoxville and Pella Hy-Vee’s will each be holding a Veterans Day breakfast. The Pella Hy-Vee will hold their breakfast tomorrow from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. at their store located at 118 Southeast 9th Street in Pella. The Knoxville Hy-Vee will hold their annual breakfast at the National Guard Armory located at 1015 North Lincoln Street from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. All veterans and active duty military and their spouses may eat a free breakfast at either location as a way to say thank you to the veterans for the service they gave or are still giving to the country.
