Pella Christian’s girls won 52-28 and the boys fell 65-63 to ADM in the opening doubleheader of the season on 92.1 KRLS.

The Eagles girls used 15 first half steals to pull ahead to a 25 point halftime lead and never looked back. Head Coach Kevin Van Maanen says defense will be the hallmark of this year’s team, and it was a complete team effort.

Morgan Fopma led the Eagles with a 14 point, 10 rebound double-double, and Kaley Wilson racked up four steals and 12 points. Pella Christian is 2-1.

The new-look boys team showed their offense’s explosive potential and growing pains in a loss to ADM. Pella Christian held an 11 point lead at the beginning of the final period behind 11 three-pointers, only to see the Tigers ride a 17-2 run to take over the contest late in the 4th. The Eagles missed a potentially game-winning three at the buzzer. Head Coach Larry Hessing says it was a win they let get away from them, and hopes it will be a learning experience for a young Pella Christian team.

Dan Jungling exploded for five-threes in the first half and Jack Vermeer had three from beyond the arc for 11 points.

The Eagles boys are 0-1. Both the girls and boys hit the road to begin the conference season Friday at Oskaloosa.
