It was a sweep for the Knoxville Basketball Squads in Centerville last night as the girls were victorious 56-35 while the boys overcame defensive lapses to beat the Big Reds 72-59 in a broadcast heard live on AM 1320 and 95.3 KNIA.The boy’s game looked to be a shootout at halftime with Centerville leading 40-to-38 and getting several easy drives to the basket. But Knoxville came out and went to a zone defense and played better on the defensive end to outscore Centerville 34-19 in the second half. Coach Jeff Larson told KNIA/KRLS Sports switching the defense was the answer. Patrick Crawford led a balanced scoring attack with 20 points, R.J. Roberts had 13 and Darius Pipkins scored ten. Knoxville is now 5-4 on the season and 5-1 in the South Central Conference. The girls held Centerville at arm’s length for most of the game before going on an 8-2 run between the third and fourth quarter to win by 21. The highlight of the run was a Cassidy Pearson three at the third quarter buzzer as she dropped in three of her 15 points on the night. Katie Keitges led with 17 points as Knoxville improved to 7-2 on the season and 5-1 in the South Central Conference. Both Knoxville squads are in action Friday against Bondurant-Farrar to close out the pre-Christmas portion of the season.
