The Marion County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
The board approved a resolution for the disposal of the Marion County Care Facility property via a sealed bid process which continues until January 23rd, 2018. Bids must meet the undisclosed minimum threshold for the property. Bidders whose bids meet the threshold will be invited to a live auction. Anyone attending the live auction will need $25,000 placed in an escrow prior to the auction. All bids are to be sent to the office of Assistant Marion County Attorney Ross Gibson. The board approved a resolution entering Marion County into an opioid epidemic litigation lawsuit joining 18 other counties in Iowa. Assistant Marion County Attorney Ross Gibson says the litigation is to collect damages from pharmaceutical companies for misrepresenting the opioids as safe. Gibson says it doesn’t take back people losing their lives or overdosing, but it’s a way to tell the companies they were out of line. They approved amendments to the floodplain regulations, a resolution to have a county storage facility building built at 3014 East Main Street in Knoxville for $93,400 as well as approved an information technology project for the building for $13,000. They approved the cancellation of Marion County outstanding warrants through June 30th, 2016. They reappointed Karen Ackley to the Marion County Conservation Board, John Franey to the Marion County Board of Adjustment, and Sally Vander Linden and Sandra Agan to the Marion County Zoning Commission.
