The City of Pella Parks Department is working on setting up the new ice skating rink at Caldwell Park this week.
Community Services Director Jeanette Vaughan says if all goes as planned, the ice will be “skateable” by this weekend. The city will have set hours for open skating and dedicated times for hockey. Schedules will be posted on-site, along with general rules for the facility and ice skating. Additionally, she asks for the community’s patience as they work through their first year of operating an ice skating rink.
“We ask that everyone please be understanding as we work through our first year of operating the ice rink,” Vaughan says. “While we have done much research and talked to other facilities, this is still new to us.”
Skate rentals will not be available this winter, however, the city plans to include those in future seasons. The rink was part of over $700,000 in improvements made to Caldwell Park, including the updated shelter house, pickleball courts, and skate park.
