The Eagles boys basketball team is hoping to move past a slow start to the winter season.

Pella Christian stands at 2-6 after a difficult slate of opponents in the month of December with little varsity experience on the current roster.

Head Coach Larry Hessing tells KNIA/KRLS Sports they have been hard at work during the break shoring up their defensive rotations.

“We’re trying to figure out what we do best defensively, that’s kind of where we like to start. We think that we’re coming up with some answers there, some methods to kind of cover up our weaknesses. We’re coming up with some changing defenses and some different ways to get people slowed down.”

Hessing says the stat that has hurt them the most so far is the amount of points they’ve allowed teams to score off of Eagles’ turnovers.

Pella Christian is off until Friday, January 5th, when they travel with the girls to Grinnell. The Eagles girls play at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Tuesday.
