High school speech teams performed at the state contest at Linn-Mar High School over the weekend.

Seven of Pella’s 15 acts received a division I rating from all three judges, including Readers Theatre (Wiley and the Hairy Man), two in Musical Theatre (Aladdin, Sister Act), two Ensemble Acting teams (13 Ways to Screw Up Your College Interview, Y’all), Television News (POPN), and Group Improv (Larson).

Pella Christian earned straight one ratings in all five events they brought to Marion, including One-Act (The Yellow Boat), Readers Theatre (Dark Road), Choral Readers (The Creation), and two in Musical Theatre (Newsies, Legally Blonde).

Pleasantville had two earn overall “I” scores: Readers Theatre and Choral Reading. Knoxville’s group improv team received two II-ratings and one I-rating.

Groups receiving All-State Nominations will be announced this afternoon.
