A newly-formed group in Pella is encouraging youth participation in track and field.

President and Head Coach Scott Tjerdsma tells KNIA/KRLS News a group of coaches at Pella Middle School are forming the new Pella Track Club. Tjerdsma say the goal is to get students involved in an activity before they get to middle school.

“Our main goal is to give exposure to track and field, because a lot of kids in Pella don’t know a lot about track and field or have any experience,” he says. “The main goal would be to try and make new friends and develop a life long passion for running and appreciation for track and field.”

He says a similar group existed earlier this decade, and the current group wanted to bring something back considering the chance to increase interest in track and field in the community.

All students living in the Pella area–regardless of what school they attend, are welcome to join. Hear more about the new Pella Track Club on Let’s Talk Pella, and find out how to sign up by clicking here.
