A Lamoni man was arrested Thursday following a break-in at an apartment in Knoxville.
According to court documents Toby Mackey, 42, of Lamoni was arrested Thursday after police were called to the 200 block of West Marion Street for a burglary in progress. Upon arrival officers found Mackey inside an apartment at the residence. Mackey told officers that he was given permission to stay in the apartment. When officers asked for the key to the apartment Mackey said he had lost it. The officers observed pry marks on the door and damage to the door knob. Officers detained Mackey while they conducted the investigation. During the search of Mackey officers found a gold spoon with a tissue containing a clear baggie with a white crystal-like substance inside which tested positive for methamphetamine. Officers were able to reach the tenant by phone who told them Mackey did not have permission to be in the apartment. During an inventory of Mackey’s property at the Marion County Jail officers found items that appeared to be the tenants property. The property was seized until it could be identified by the tenant. Mackey was charged with burglary 3rd degree a class D felony, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
