High school speech teams performed at the state contest at Linn-Mar High School last weekend.

The following groups received All-State Nominations, the highest possible honor from the Iowa High School Speech Association:

Those with the performing nomination will travel to Iowa State Center in Ames on February 17th to perform in the All-State Large Speech Festival.

From the state meet, seven of Pella’s 15 acts received a division I rating from all three judges, including Readers Theatre (Wiley and the Hairy Man), two in Musical Theatre (Aladdin, Sister Act), two Ensemble Acting teams (13 Ways to Screw Up Your College Interview, Y’all), Television News (POPN), and Group Improv (Larson).

Pella Christian earned straight one ratings in all five events they brought to Marion, including One-Act (The Yellow Boat), Readers Theatre (Dark Road), Choral Readers (The Creation), and two in Musical Theatre (Newsies, Legally Blonde).

Pleasantville had two earn overall “I” scores: Readers Theatre and Choral Reading. Knoxville’s group improv team received two II-ratings and one I-rating.
