A former Pella High boys basketball player that led the Dutch to their two state championships will be enshrined in the Iowa High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.

Pierce Hibma, a 2003 graduate of Pella High School, will be inducted in the 2018 class of honorees, and honored on Championship Friday next week at the tournament. Hibma led Pella to two titles in Class 3A in 2002 and 2003, as well as a third-place finish his sophomore season.

A talented all-around player, he was a two time all-state first team choice and a rare three-time All-Tournament selection and the captain of the team his senior season. Hibma remains Pella’s career leader in scoring 1,301 points and dishing 310 assists. He was recruited by Creighton University and after a red-shirt year contributed to the Jays’ success as a valuable reserve and part-time starter on two NCAA and two NIT teams. He earned his medical degree and is currently a doctor in North Carolina.
